The Island La Palma (in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife) is known as the Green Island or the Island of Stars. Its slopes are covered with lush Laurel forests and Pines woods while pine trees and brooms hold tight to its rocky summits. Pine trees, laurel forests are some of the outstanding natural beauty or attractions of the Island that led UNESCO to declare it as a World Biosphere Reserve, with a network of over thousand kilometres followed by the European Rules & Norms.

La Palma is home to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park and nature reserves (35% of its surface area), where El Roque de los Muchachos, at an altitude of 2.426m, and thanks to its special and excellent natural conditions, it has converted as one of the most prominent places in the World for astronomical observation. Its volcanic origin with lava flows and volcanoes in the south are still warm where six of the volcanoes are surrounded by the green forest. This gives the Island an amazing variety of landscapes. It is a fantastic place to enjoy nature and the sea.

• Getting there

  La Palma demonstrates a varied climate and a rugged terrain. Therefore, its adviceable to have warm clothes and comfortable shoes.

• Did you know...?

  Thanks to its all year round dark & clear skies during the whole year, La Palma has become one of the most provileged sites in the world for the astronomical observation.

  Because of the fact that La Palma lies in the trade winds, they hit the thermal inversion layer between 1.200 abd 1.600m. of height, forming “mar de nubes” (sea of clouds) where the atmosphere is clean with only little turbulence.

  High clouds are rare where the sea of clouds therefore acts as a filter that prevents the passage of air pollution.

  Our discovery through the North reveals characteristic places such as the Barranco de las Agustias or the idyllic village of Las Tricias and the picturesque villages in the North situated in an environment of lush beauty.

  Hiking Route:

  Route of the Volcanoes: Impressive volcanoes such as the San Juan, continuing one after the other until it conquers the crater of Las Deseadas, the highest point of our route.

  Caldera de Taburiente: We pass through the beautiful pine forests and old farms where our excursion will descend untill we reach the River Taburiente, where the beautiful peaks which forms the Boiler, are admired.

  Manantiales de Marcos y Cordero: We will discover the environment full of lush vegetation that runs along an old canal and across the thirteen narrow tunnels to reach the source of Marcos & Cordero.

  Caminos de ensueño (Dream Paths): Through the farms of exotic plants and tropical fruits, we will walk through the road from Las Tricias, which opens between the beautiful Dragon trees and almonds orchards. The Buracas caves, with its mystery and pre-historic petroglyphs (engravings) carved in stone, brings our thoughts back to the era of the island natives, culturally close to the stonge age. Fancy: Unforgettable hours at the sea visting the “Cueva Bonita”, an impressing volcanic cave and also “La Cueva de Candelaria”, shelter in olden days for pirates and the guanches.
